Cold and Wet...

There is a cold that goes inside muscle and wraps around bone constricting fingers toes and self-expression. With the rain comes a wetness, a dampness that invades your body and clothing. Only someone without a residence can know this cold. The housed walk-about from car to heated room in light sweaters on freezing days knowing that their time in the cold is so limited they need not even bundle up.

I know this cold and this wet. I know them intimately from doorways, bus stops, portico's and alleyways. In the winter in Seattle the homeless stay wet, damp, cold and miserable, while the housed stay warm dry and happy.
