dope sick...

I met a guy at the shelter that has spent 17 years in prison. 13 for his murder conviction and 4 on parole violations. For a murderer he was a nice guy. 13 years in San Quentin had taught him a lot about life, about people, about the system. He's one of the few homeless people I've exchanged contact information with. So outta all the guys in here, I befriend the murderer. Actually, it was man slaughter, which is a charge anyone that's anyone that's ever gotten in a fight can get. Yeah. You get in a fight, it gets outta hand, the other guy gets killed....you're a murderer...In, his case the victim was the son of a prominent congressman so they threw the book at him.

First to leave each morning he gets the 5:15 bus to the Ballard methadone clinic. I was on methadone when I was living and working in Hong Kong back in the early eighties. Methadone works like this. It is a dose that keeps you from getting dope sick if you're an opiate (heroin) addict. Bear in mind, it doesn't get you "high". For that you would need more dope. Methadone makes you ok. That's why he's first to leave every morning. He's headed to the Ballard methadone clinic to get his dose for the day so he'll be ok. Now here's why you can't lay your phone, tablet, or laptop down for even two seconds unattended you're dealing with dope addicts. If it's Sunday morning, and the methadone clinic is closed, and he's lacking a dose, and your phone, tablet, or laptop is charging unattended - he's gonna steal it in order to buy dope to not be sick. He told me this. He said he wouldn't want to, but that he would have no other choice.....steal your stuff or be sick.....he's gonna steal your stuff!
